Houston, Texas, May 3, 2007 - Westlake Chemical Corporation (NYSE:WLK) has recently notified 28 sons and daughters of employees throughout the company that they are recipients of a Westlake Scholarship beginning the fall term of 2007.

This annual award of scholarships continues Westlake's long-standing support of the continuing education endeavors for high school students of company employees. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study provided the student maintains specific high academic standards.

David R. Hansen, Westlake's Senior Vice President, Administration stated in describing this years' applicants, “We are proud to be able to continue our rich tradition of recognizing and rewarding the high achieving college bound students of our employees. The competition for these scholarships remains strong and the applications are from some of the most exemplary students in each of the communities in which we operate. The average recipient for 2007 has a GPA of over 3.6 and ranks among the highest in their class. Beyond the academic achievements we note that many of these scholars have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteer and civic activities.
